| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Othie Lee Davis, formerly of Chicago, who |
| 4 | | passed away on September 25, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born on October 27, 1934, in Tutwiler, |
| 6 | | Mississippi, to Earl and Lillie Davis; he enlisted in the |
| 7 | | United States Army at the age of 21; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, After the completion of his military training, he |
| 9 | | was sent to Korea in 1950, where he was one of the first Black |
| 10 | | soldiers to serve his country in the Korean War; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, He spent most of his adult life in Chicago; he was |
| 12 | | retired from the International Harvester Company; he returned |
| 13 | | to Memphis to spend time with his family and friends; he later |
| 14 | | worked for the casinos in Tunica, Mississippi; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father; his |
| 16 | | sister, Flabe Hunter; and his daughter, Nikki Belinda Davis; |
| 17 | | and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Othie Lee Davis is survived by his son, Murphy |
| 19 | | Duncan; his mother, Lillie Davis; his sisters, Lillie McBride |
| 20 | | (Gene) and Louise Davis; his brother, Earl Davis; his 23 nieces |
