| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
Reverend James L. Demus III, who passed |
| 4 | | away on September 23, 2010; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III served as senior pastor |
| 6 | | of Park Manor Christian Church for the last 25 years; under |
| 7 | | Rev. Demus' leadership, Park Manor grew into one of the largest |
| 8 | | African American churches in the Disciples of Christ |
| 9 | | denomination; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III served as executive |
| 11 | | director of the Chicago South Side NAACP; he was a Rainbow PUSH |
| 12 | | official; he helped found the Ministerial Alliance Against the |
| 13 | | Digital Divide, a 30,000+ member next-generation civil rights |
| 14 | | organization that is devoted to bridging the Digital Divide and |
| 15 | | promoting personal and economic development in low-income and |
| 16 | | minority communities across the country; he also was the chief |
| 17 | | organizer for the original Million Man March; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Reverend James Demus III is survived by his wife, |
| 19 | | Eleanor; his sons, Joshua Von Demus and James L. Demus IV; his |
| 20 | | stepchildren, Robyn L. Cushingberry, Marie C. Babb-Fowler, and |
| 21 | | Lamont Sharp, and his grandchildren, Anna J. Chapman-Demus, |
| 22 | | Candyce L. Black, Brittany Thompson, and Andrew Babb-Fowler; |
