| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
William Giddens; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, William Giddens was born on August 3, 1925, in St. |
| 5 | | Joseph, Missouri; his parents were William and Mary Jane |
| 6 | | Giddens; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, William Giddens joined the United States Navy in |
| 8 | | 1942; after attending boot camp in Farragut, Idaho, he served |
| 9 | | on the U.S.S. Steamer Bay in the south Pacific during World War |
| 10 | | II; he subsequently returned to Great Lakes, where he met and |
| 11 | | married Mary Lou Jensen; shortly after, he was stationed in |
| 12 | | Norfolk, Virginia; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After his stint with the U.S. Navy, William |
| 14 | | Giddens attended barber school and later owned his own shop in |
| 15 | | Waukegan; he was elected the first alderman of the new 7th Ward |
| 16 | | in North Chicago and served as chairman of the body responsible |
| 17 | | for building the city hall; he later left his barbershop to |
| 18 | | join the Lake County Sheriff's office, where he retired after |
| 19 | | serving his community for over 20 years; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, William Giddens traveled to all 50 states, but |
| 21 | | loved Wyoming and Montana the most; during his travels, he went |
