2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James C. Torricelli, Ph.D., of Rochester, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on September 22, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born the youngest of nine children on | ||||||
6 | January 28, 1935 in his home in Tovey, the son of Patrizio | ||||||
7 | Joseph and Virginia Vignocchi Torricelli of Ospitale, Italy; he | ||||||
8 | graduated from Tovey Grade School and Kincaid High School; he | ||||||
9 | earned an associate's degree from Springfield Junior College | ||||||
10 | and his bachelor's degree from Quincy College; he then went on | ||||||
11 | to earn his master's degree from Southeast Missouri State | ||||||
12 | University (SEMO) in Kirksville, Missouri, and his Ph.D. at | ||||||
13 | Southern Illinois University in Carbondale; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, He proudly served his country in the Army Reserve | ||||||
15 | for eight years and served during the Korean War; he was made | ||||||
16 | an Honorary Colonel of the National Guard; he worked as a | ||||||
17 | teacher and coach and went on to run a vocational school; he | ||||||
18 | then began and ran his own non-profit organization, New Start | ||||||
19 | Inc. for more than 30 years; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, He was well rooted in his Italian heritage and was | ||||||
21 | known as a colorful, unique man who was devoted to his family; | ||||||
22 | his word was his life; he was a member of the Cathedral of the |

1 | Immaculate Conception; he was also very involved in local and | ||||||
2 | State politics and was a member of the Sangamo Club, Past | ||||||
3 | Member of the Roman Cultural Society, and founding member of | ||||||
4 | the Bulldog Baseball Dugout Club; he loved to travel, read, | ||||||
5 | fish, hunt, cook Italian food, and dance; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his | ||||||
7 | brothers, Mario, Joseph, William, Fred, and Reno Torricelli; | ||||||
8 | and his nephew, Fred-John Torricelli; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, James Torricelli is survived by his siblings, | ||||||
10 | Wanda (husband, Kenny) Melvin and Robert and John Torricelli; | ||||||
11 | his sisters-in-law, Nancy and JoAnn Torricelli; his loving and | ||||||
12 | devoted fiancee, Cheryl Betty; his daughter, Virginia | ||||||
13 | (husband, Joseph) Bartletti; his sons, James (wife, Karen), | ||||||
14 | Timothy (wife, Mary), Steve (wife, Gina), and Jeffrey | ||||||
15 | Torricelli; his seven grandchildren, Sara, Reece, Bryce, | ||||||
16 | Sofia, Francesca, and Olivia Torricelli and Lauren Blakeman; | ||||||
17 | and his many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
20 | his family and friends, the passing of James C. Torricelli; and | ||||||
21 | be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
