2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Judy Gay Stevenson of Oak Brook, formerly | ||||||
4 | of Naperville, who passed away on June 28, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was born on December 6, 1937, in | ||||||
6 | New York; she devoted herself to the clarinet, cello, chorus, | ||||||
7 | band, and orchestra while attending Naperville Community High | ||||||
8 | School; after moving on to North Central College, her areas of | ||||||
9 | study were voice and piano; she sang for 2 years with the | ||||||
10 | Robert Shaw Corale and performed with the Chicago Lyric Opera; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was Chairman of the Board of | ||||||
13 | Magnetrol International Incorporated, a global provider of | ||||||
14 | process instrumentation, at the time of her passing; she joined | ||||||
15 | Magnetrol (then Schaub Engineering Company) in 1964 as a | ||||||
16 | part-time bookkeeper; in her first year of employment, she rose | ||||||
17 | to accounting supervisor and then to accounting manager a year | ||||||
18 | later; in 1967, she was elected to serve as treasurer and | ||||||
19 | administrative vice president; in 1975, she became president of | ||||||
20 | the company and, in 1978, bought the company; under her | ||||||
21 | leadership, Magnetrol has prospered due to an aggressive | ||||||
22 | commitment to research and development, new products, new | ||||||
23 | technologies, training, and progressive and creative thinking; |

2 | WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was well known among her peers for | ||||||
3 | her involvement and devotion to business, industry, and her | ||||||
4 | community; at North Central College, she established the Harold | ||||||
5 | E. Meiley Scholarship Fund, the Judy G. Stevenson Scholarship | ||||||
6 | Fund, and the African Scholarship Fund; at the College of | ||||||
7 | DuPage, she established the Judy G. Stevenson Scholarship and | ||||||
8 | the Magnetrol Manufacturing Scholarship; she financed 6 annual | ||||||
9 | scholarships to children of Magnetrol Associates and | ||||||
10 | Representatives; she also supported the Naperville Heritage | ||||||
11 | Society, Edward Hospital, the Naperville Riverwalk, the | ||||||
12 | Millennium Carillon Foundation, Good Samaritan Hospital, and | ||||||
13 | the DuPage Intergenerational Village; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson served on the Board of Trustees at | ||||||
15 | North Central College and was a member of the Chief Executive | ||||||
16 | Officers Club, the National Association of Women Business | ||||||
17 | Owners, the National Association of Female Executives, and | ||||||
18 | Eastern Star; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was the recipient of numerous | ||||||
20 | honors for her work in the community; she was named the YWCA | ||||||
21 | Businesswoman of the Year for DuPage County in 1985, the YWCA | ||||||
22 | Outstanding Woman Leader of DuPage County in 1997, and was | ||||||
23 | recognized as one of The Top 500 Women-Owned Businesses in the |

1 | country in 1998; in April of 1999, she was honored by | ||||||
2 | Naperville Central High School when she received the Alumni | ||||||
3 | Recognition Award for Achievements in Business and Community | ||||||
4 | Service; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
6 | parents, Harold and Claudia Meiley; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson is survived by her loving daughter, | ||||||
8 | Laurie Jane Swallow; her loving son, Jeffrey (Madeleine) | ||||||
9 | Swallow; her three beautiful grandchildren, Emily, Heston, and | ||||||
10 | Connor; her dear sister, Claudia Jeanne (Robert) Patterson; and | ||||||
11 | her dear brothers, Charles Meiley and Emery "Duke" (Judy) | ||||||
12 | Meiley; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
15 | her family and friends, the passing of Judy Gay Stevenson; and | ||||||
16 | be it further
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Judy Gay Stevenson as an expression | ||||||
19 | of our sympathy.
