2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal |
4 | | Alec E. Catherwood of Byron, who passed away on October 14, |
5 | | 2010 in Helmand province, Afghanistan; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood graduated from Byron High |
7 | | School in 2009; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood served his country with |
9 | | bravery and distinction as a rifleman assigned to the 3rd |
10 | | Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division, I |
11 | | Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, California; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood earned the Purple Heart, the |
13 | | Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the |
14 | | Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Korean Defense |
15 | | Service Medal for his service; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood was a member of the Boy |
17 | | Scouts; he was a black belt in tae kwon do; he also enjoyed |
18 | | athletics, four-wheeling, mudding in his truck, and shooting |
19 | | his shotgun; and

20 | | WHEREAS, LCpl. Alec Catherwood is survived by his parents, |
