SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lester E. "Gene" Cox of Alton, who passed
4away on December 8, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on February 16, 1922, in Alton to the
6late Lester C. and Dora (Webb) Cox; he married Betty Jeanne
7Hellrung on August 28, 1943, at St. Mathews Catholic Church in
8Kansas City, Missouri; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He served his country in the South Pacific during
10World War II in the United States Army, for which he received
11three Bronze Stars; he was a quality control coordinator at
12Laclede Steel for over 40 years before his retirement in 1986;
13he was also a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, the Knights of
14Columbus in Alton, the Alton Eagle Lodge 254, and the Alton
15Wood River Sportsman Club; and
 
16    WHEREAS, His greatest passion was spending time with his
17family and grandchildren; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents;
19one daughter, Janet Carrow; one sister, Lorraine Marshall; one
20brother, Merrill Cox; and one granddaughter, Dorrie, in
21infancy; and

1    WHEREAS, Lester Cox is survived by his daughters, Susan
2Garrison, Deborah (spouse, Dave Nelson), Melinda (spouse,
3David Lorenzoni), and Sarah (spouse, Kevin Rands); a son-in law
4and spouse, Dr. Martin T. and Maggie Carrow; his grandchildren,
5Martin Carrow II, Michael Carrow, Megan Washington, Drew
6Garrison, Darren Garrison, Corrie Reiter, Glenn Reiter, and
7Bruce Reiter; his great-grandchildren, Drew, Dylan, Morgan,
8Emma, Jack Carrow, and Everett Washington; and his sister,
9Betty Hale; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12his family and friends, the passing of Lester Cox; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Lester Cox as a symbol of our
16sincere sympathy.
