SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jerry D. Reece of Normal, who passed away on December 13, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born October 23, 1932, in Milan, Missouri, the son of John L. and Mary Irene Frazier Reece; he married Sonja Ann Kerr on May 22, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri; he was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State/Truman State University; he was a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force, assigned to Tactical Air Command; he served in England during the Korean War and continued to stay active in the Air Force Reserve after the war; he was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Wall crisis and was stationed at Richards Gebaur Air Force Base during that time; and

WHEREAS, He enjoyed flying and was a flight instructor for many years; he was the owner/operator of an industrial sharpening business and retired in 1998; he then became an active volunteer at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, serving as a patient escort and tour guide; he was also an active member and a past president of Mended Hearts; and

WHEREAS, He was a regular at Cracker Barrel in Bloomington and for over 10 years could be found there daily for lunch; he loved to travel and in recent years visited Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Israel, China, Japan, Thailand, Spain, Great Britain, Canada, Alaska, and Estonia; he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed attending and videotaping their many activities; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James L. Reece; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Reece is survived by his wife; his son, Jay Donnley (Pamela S.) Reece; and his grandchildren, Eric James Reece and Alicia Renee Reece; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jerry Reece; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jerry Reece as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
