|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Rollins Currie, Sr., of Bloomington; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, He was born on February 6, 1936 in Centralia, a |
5 | | son of Samuel, Sr. and Luvenia Thorpe Currie; he married |
6 | | Obnetta E. Robinson on June 29, 1957 in Bloomington; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, He worked at the Bloomington Country Club, |
8 | | starting there at age 17 as a shoe shiner and working his way |
9 | | up with hard work and dedication; he retired as the assistant |
10 | | manager after 57 years; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist |
12 | | Church in Bloomington, under Pastor John Brown; he helped to |
13 | | get the church involved with the Midwest Food Bank deliveries; |
14 | | he enjoyed making food baskets around the holidays and |
15 | | delivering them to the underprivileged; he enjoyed golfing, |
16 | | watching the Cardinals play, and fixing up houses; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, He loved having cookouts and hosting parties; he |
18 | | had a heart for children and loved planning birthday and |
19 | | Halloween parties; his favorite time of the year was |
20 | | Thanksgiving and Christmas; and

1 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; |
2 | | his son, Lamar Miller; his brothers, Samuel, Jr., David, |
3 | | Glenzo, Richard, and Joseph; and his sisters, Luvenia, Shirley, |
4 | | Mickey, and Joyce; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Rollins Currie, Sr. is survived by his children, |
6 | | Donna Thornton (James Greene), Kimberly Lilly, Kandi Currie |
7 | | (Kimberly Pai-ge), Rollins Currie, Jr. (Deann), Kirchell |
8 | | (Billy) Walls, Sheila Savinon, Corey (Kimberly) Driskoll, |
9 | | Rosalind Tony-Currie, Connie (Leroy) Walls, Terri Fountaine, |
10 | | and Marsha (Carl) Stewart; his sister, Helena Matthews; his |
11 | | Godson, Kevin Kutchma; his special friend, Gloria Johnson; and |
12 | | a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
15 | | his family and friends, the passing of Rollins Currie, Sr.; and |
16 | | be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Rollins Currie, Sr. as a symbol of |
19 | | our sincere sympathy.
