| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of William A. Rolando of Springfield, |
| 4 | | formerly of Jerseyville, who passed away on October 20, 2010; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was born January 15, 1947, in Litchfield, one |
| 7 | | of four children born to the late Lawrence J. and Olive (Bauer) |
| 8 | | Rolando; he married the former Sandra Shaw on August 14, 1965, |
| 9 | | at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville and together |
| 10 | | they shared 45 years of marriage; he graduated with the Class |
| 11 | | of 1965 from Jersey Community High School, and held several |
| 12 | | jobs before beginning work with McIntyre Construction in |
| 13 | | Jerseyville as a lead worker and site superintendant; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After sustaining a paralyzing injury at work, he |
| 15 | | returned to school to further his education, earning his B.S. |
| 16 | | in business and marketing management in 1979, where he was a |
| 17 | | Illinois State Scholarship and Illinois Association of |
| 18 | | Realtors Scholarpship Recipient, and his masters in business |
| 19 | | administration in 1987 both from Southern Illinois University |
| 20 | | of Edwardsville; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1977, he and his wife began a 20 years |
| 22 | | association in the real estate world, with Rolando Real Estate |

| 1 | | in Jerseyville; in 1981, he was called upon by newly elected |
| 2 | | Secretary of State Jim Edgar to serve as a Special Projects |
| 3 | | Director; he later became the Director of Personnel and Chief |
| 4 | | Labor Negotiator for the Illinois Secretary of State, and |
| 5 | | retired in 2003 as Director of the Illinois Department of |
| 6 | | Labor; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, He was a very community and civic minded |
| 8 | | individual who easily gave of his time and efforts; while a |
| 9 | | resident of Jerseyville, he served on the Zoning Commission and |
| 10 | | Recreation Board; he was a staunch Republican, and served on |
| 11 | | numerous boards and committees, including serving as Jersey |
| 12 | | County precinct committeman and as the Chairman of the Jersey |
| 13 | | County Republican Central Committee for 23 years until 2003; he |
| 14 | | also served as the former president of the Illinois Republican |
| 15 | | County Chairmans Association; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Outside of the political scene, he also served on |
| 17 | | numerous professional organizations and service and fraternal |
| 18 | | organizations; he was active with the Illinois Public Employers |
| 19 | | Labor Relations Association and the National Public Employers |
| 20 | | Labor Relations Association, serving as president of both |
| 21 | | organizations; he also was active in the Jaycees, serving as |
| 22 | | former president of the Jerseyville chapter, and former vice |
| 23 | | president of the State organization; he was an advisor for the |
| 24 | | Boy Scouts of America; he was a member of the Knights of |

| 1 | | Columbus, Holy Family Council of Chatham 4179, Roman Cultural |
| 2 | | Society, Fraternal Order of the Elks, and former president of |
| 3 | | the Jersey County Slo Pitch Softball Association; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer |
| 5 | | Sue Rolando; and his father in law, Robert Shaw; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, William Rolando is survived by his wife, Sandra |
| 7 | | Shaw; his daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Norman, Becky |
| 8 | | and Ed Hunter, and Kathy and Nathan Shalley; his grandchildren, |
| 9 | | Tyler, C.J., and Sydney Norman, Molly, Jack, Max, and Lucy |
| 10 | | Hunter, and Tucker and Grace Shalley; his sister, Carole |
| 11 | | Rolando, and her husband, Mike Myers; his brothers and |
| 12 | | sisters-in-law, Mick and Susan Rolando and David and Sue |
| 13 | | Rolando; and his mother-in-law, Doris Shaw; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |
| 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 16 | | his family and friends, the passing of William Rolando; and be |
| 17 | | it further
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to the family of William Rolando as a symbol of our |
| 20 | | sincere sympathy.
