SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Russel Roy Dagit of Pekin, who passed away on December 31, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born November 3, 1924, in Green Valley to Charles Adolf and Clara Elizabeth (Volk) Dagit; he married Alberta Florence Harlan on September 4, 1942, in Pekin; he later married Christal Elaine Miller on September. 4, 1966, in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, He was a stores control clerk at Caterpillar Incorporated, retiring in 1974 after 31 years of service; he had previously worked at Boss Glove Factory in Peoria and worked on the building of Camp Ellis during World War II; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the Tazewell County Historic Places Society and the Tazewell County Museum and Educational Center, where he was an active volunteer building bookcases, shelves, and hanging most of the pictures in the picture gallery; he enjoyed building and repairing items for the museum; he helped in the research for the Dagit family history; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin, the Peoria Motorcycle Club, the Caterpillar Camping Club, and the McDonald's Coffee Club; he was an avid motorcycle rider, enjoyed the outdoors, and working in his garage; he often stated that work was his hobby; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Louis Dagit; and one sister, Dorothy DeGroot; and

WHEREAS, Russel Dagit is survived by his wife; his sons, Roy (Debbie) Dagit and Everett (Sheila) Dagit; his daughter, Marnie Linda (Tommy) Lively; his 10 grandchildren; his 16 great-grandchildren; and his 2 great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Russel Dagit; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Russel Dagit as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
