| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
| 5 | | Section 3-664 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-664)
|
| 7 | | Sec. 3-664. Gold Star license plates. Upon proper |
| 8 | | application, the Secretary of State shall
issue registration |
| 9 | | plates designated as Gold Star license plates to any Illinois |
| 10 | | resident who is the
surviving widow, widower, or parent, child, |
| 11 | | or stepchild of a person who served in the Armed Forces of the |
| 12 | | United States and
lost his or her life while in service whether |
| 13 | | in peacetime or war. The
surviving widow or widower, each |
| 14 | | surviving child or stepchild, and each surviving parent, or in |
| 15 | | the absence of a surviving parent, only one surviving sibling |
| 16 | | shall be issued one set of registration plates. Registration |
| 17 | | plates issued under this
Section shall be for first division |
| 18 | | vehicles and second division vehicles
of 8,000 pounds or less. |
| 19 | | The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates |
| 20 | | to be issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance |
| 21 | | with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. An applicant shall be |
| 22 | | charged only the appropriate registration fee.
