| 6 | | "Section 10. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 7 | | Section 3-696 as follows:

| 8 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-696 new) |
| 9 | | Sec. 3-696. In God We Trust license plates. |
| 10 | | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and |
| 11 | | applications
made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may |
| 12 | | issue special registration
plates designated as
In God We Trust
|
| 13 | | license plates.
The special plates issued under this Section |
| 14 | | shall be affixed only to
passenger vehicles of the first |
| 15 | | division or motor vehicles of the second
division weighing not |
|

| 1 | | more than 8,000 pounds.
Plates issued under this Section shall |
| 2 | | expire according to the multi-year
procedure established by |
| 3 | | Section 3-414.1 of this Code. |
| 4 | | (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be |
| 5 | | wholly within the
discretion of the Secretary.
The Secretary |
| 6 | | may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as
|
| 7 | | vanity or personalized plates in accordance with Section |
| 8 | | 3-405.1 of this Code.
The plates are not required to designate |
| 9 | | "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in
subsection (b) of Section |
| 10 | | 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary, in his or her
discretion, |
| 11 | | shall approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided
|
| 12 | | under Section 3-412. |
| 13 | | (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a |
| 14 | | $20
fee for
original issuance in addition to the appropriate |
| 15 | | registration fee. Of this fee, $5 shall be deposited into the |
| 16 | | Veterans Assistance Fund and $15
shall be deposited into the |
| 17 | | Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to
be used by |
| 18 | | the Secretary to help defray the administrative processing |
| 19 | | costs. |
| 20 | | For each registration renewal period, a $20 fee, in |
| 21 | | addition to the
appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. |
| 22 | | Of this fee, $18 shall be
deposited into the Veterans |
| 23 | | Assistance Fund and $2 shall be deposited
into the Secretary of |
| 24 | | State Special License Plate Fund.".
