| 1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
| 5 | | 10-20.53 and 34-18.45 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/10-20.53 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 10-20.53. Minimum reading instruction. Each school |
| 8 | | board shall promote 60 minutes of minimum reading opportunities |
| 9 | | daily for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade whose |
| 10 | | reading level is one grade level or lower than his or her |
| 11 | | current grade level according to current learning standards and |
| 12 | | the school district.
