AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2397 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2397 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:


 
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended  by adding Sections 
510-20.53 and 34-18.45 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.53 new)
7    Sec. 10-20.53. Minimum reading instruction.  Each school 
8board shall promote 60 minutes of minimum reading opportunities 
9daily for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade whose 
10reading level is one grade level or lower than his or her 
11current grade level according to current learning standards and 
12the school district.
 
13    (105 ILCS 5/34-18.45 new)
14    Sec. 34-18.45. Minimum reading instruction.  The board 
15shall promote 60 minutes of minimum reading opportunities daily
