| 1 | | (1) the seat assembly exhibits a weight loss of 3 |
| 2 | | pounds or greater during the first 10 minutes of the test; |
| 3 | | or |
| 4 | | (2) the seat assembly exhibits a heat release rate of |
| 5 | | 80 kW or greater. |
| 6 | | As an alternative to the ASTM E1537-07 standard test, |
| 7 | | school bus occupant seating may be required to pass the "School |
| 8 | | Bus Seat Upholstery Fire Block Test" as described in the latest |
| 9 | | edition of the National School Transportation Specifications |
| 10 | | and Procedures published by the National Congress on School |
| 11 | | Transportation. |
| 12 | | (c) All plastic components contained in the engine |
| 13 | | compartment of all new school buses put in service on or after |
| 14 | | January 1, 2014 shall meet a V-0 classification when tested in |
| 15 | | accordance with the Underwriters Laboratories UL 94 standard |
| 16 | | for safety. |
| 17 | | (d) The Illinois Department of Transportation shall adopt |
| 18 | | rules to promote the fire safety of school buses and implement |
| 19 | | the provisions of this Section. On and after the date the rules |
| 20 | | take effect, no new school bus shall be sold or offered for |
| 21 | | sale in this State unless the manufacturer has certified to the |
| 22 | | Illinois Department of Transportation, in a form acceptable to |
| 23 | | the Illinois Department of Transportation, that the fire safety |
| 24 | | standards prescribed by this Section have been met.".
