| 1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
| 5 | | Complete Streets Act. |
| 6 | | Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act: |
| 7 | | "Complete streets" is the planning, life-cycle cost |
| 8 | | analysis of pavement options, design, implementation, |
| 9 | | operation, and maintenance of roads in order to reasonably |
| 10 | | address the safety and accessibility needs of users of all ages |
| 11 | | and abilities. Complete streets considers the needs of |
| 12 | | motorists, pedestrians, transit users and vehicles, |
| 13 | | bicyclists, and commercial and emergency vehicles moving along |
| 14 | | and across roads, intersections, and crossings in a manner that |
| 15 | | is sensitive to the local context and recognizes that the needs |
| 16 | | vary in urban, suburban, and rural settings. |
| 17 | | "Department" means the Department of Transportation of |
| 18 | | this State. |
| 19 | | Section 10. Implementation. The Department of |
| 20 | | Transportation shall implement a complete streets policy after |
| 21 | | consultation with stakeholders, State and regional agencies, |
| 22 | | local governments, and road authorities. The Department, after |
