AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4757




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4757, AS AMENDED, by 
3replacing everything after the enacting clause with the 
4following:

 
5    "Section 5. The Fire Sprinkler Dormitory Act is amended  by 
6changing Section 10 as follows:
 
7    (110 ILCS 47/10)

8    Sec. 10. Fire sprinkler systems required. Subject to the 
9establishment of a fire sprinkler dormitory revolving loan 
10program under Section 15 of this Act, fire sprinkler systems 
11are required in the dormitories of all post-secondary 
12educational institutions by 2013, unless a post-secondary 
13educational institution files a compliance plan  with the Office 
14of the State Fire Marshal, approved by the Office, by January 
151, 2013.  The compliance plan shall include a detailed timeline 
16that outlines completion of the planned sprinkler system

1installations.  The Office of the State Fire Marshal may, at its 
2discretion, require periodic updates from a post-secondary 
3educational institution to document its efforts to comply with 
4this Act.  All sprinkler installations required by this Act 
5shall be completed and operational by December 31, 2014.  A 
6violation of this Section is a business offense punishable by a 
7fine of not more than $1,000 per day. This requirement includes 
8current structures as well as newly constructed dormitories. 
9Nothing in this Act may be construed to abrogate any statute, 
10rule, or ordinance requiring that a fire extinguisher be 
11present in a dormitory.
