HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are saddened to learn of the death of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Nickolas Daniels of Elmwood Park, who passed away on November 5, 2011; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Nickolas Daniels graduated from St. Patrick High School in Chicago in 2004; he excelled in sports, especially football, where he played linebacker and made All-Conference his senior year; and

WHEREAS, After high school, L. Cpl. Nickolas Daniels went to college for a semester, but found out it was not for him; he then worked several jobs in Elmwood Park and coached football at his high school alma mater, but decided to join the United States Marine Corps because he believed it would help him reach his goal of becoming a police officer; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Nickolas Daniels served his country with pride as a member of the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion of the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force out of Twentynine Palms, California; after graduating from basic training in January of 2010, he was sent on his first deployment as a combat engineer on September 4, 2011; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Nickolas Daniels is survived by his parents, Greg and Debi; his siblings, Kati, Billy, and Lonny Daniels; and his fiancee, Katie O'Neil; and

WHEREAS, L. Cpl. Nickolas Daniels' patriotism and courage will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers, and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Nickolas Daniels; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of L. Cpl. Nickolas Daniels as an expression of our sympathy.
