SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 11

    Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that the salary or cost of living adjustment of members of the General Assembly may be increased by a joint resolution adopted by two-thirds of the members elected to each house of the General Assembly. Requires that the joint resolution must also be approved by a majority of the electors voting on the question at the next general election following the adoption of the joint resolution. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to amend Section 11 of Article IV
9of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

THE LEGISLATURE

12    (ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 11)
13SECTION 11. COMPENSATION AND ALLOWANCES
14    (a) Except as provided in subsections (b) and (c), a A
15member shall receive a salary, cost of living adjustment, and
16allowances as provided by law.
17    (b) Changes , but changes in the salary of a member shall
18not take effect during the term for which he or she has been
19elected. An increase in the cost of living adjustment of a
20member shall not take effect during the term of which he or she
21has been elected.
22    (c) The salary or cost of living adjustment of members of
23the General Assembly may be increased by a joint resolution

SCHEDULE
8    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
9declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
10Constitutional Amendment Act.
