| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lance |
| 4 | | Corporal Alec E. Catherwood of Byron, who gave his life |
| 5 | | defending America's freedom on October 14, 2010, in the Helmand |
| 6 | | province of southern Afghanistan; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Alec E. Catherwood was born on May 6, 1991 in |
| 8 | | Heilbronn, Germany, to Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood was a member of the |
| 10 | | Future Farmers of America, in which he served as a Sentinel; he |
| 11 | | was a member of the Boy Scouts of America; and he held a black |
| 12 | | belt in tae kwon do; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood graduated in 2009 from |
| 14 | | Byron High School and enlisted in the United States Marines |
| 15 | | Corps on June 1, 2009, where he had wanted to serve since he |
| 16 | | was 3 years old; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood was deployed to |
| 18 | | Afghanistan to serve his first combat tour of duty and had |
| 19 | | talked about re-enlisting; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood's awards and |
|

| 1 | | decorations include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, |
| 2 | | the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service |
| 3 | | Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood will be missed by his |
| 5 | | parents, Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; his sister, Mikaela |
| 6 | | Montgomery; his fiancee, Hailey Patrick, whom he was to marry |
| 7 | | on July 2, 2011; as well as his fellow soldiers and the |
| 8 | | citizens of a grateful nation; therefore, be it
|
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 10 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 11 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
| 12 | | Lance Corporal Alec E. Catherwood; and be it further
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Alec |
| 14 | | E. Catherwood and his willingness to serve his country, which |
| 15 | | led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further |
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 17 | | presented to the family of Lance Corporal Alec E. Catherwood as |
| 18 | | a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
