| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate our friend and | ||||||
| 4 | colleague, Illinois State Representative Susana Mendoza, for | ||||||
| 5 | being elected to serve as Chicago City Clerk; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza was born in Chicago to | ||||||
| 7 | Joaquin and Susana Mendoza, who had emigrated from Mexico in | ||||||
| 8 | the 1960s; her family moved from Chicago to Bolingbrook when | ||||||
| 9 | she was a child; after graduating from Bolingbrook High School | ||||||
| 10 | in 1990, where she earned All-State and All-Midwest honors in | ||||||
| 11 | varsity soccer, she attended Truman State University in | ||||||
| 12 | Kirksville, Missouri on a soccer and academic scholarship, | ||||||
| 13 | where she earned All-Midwest honors in soccer and earned her | ||||||
| 14 | bachelor's degree in business administration in 1994; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza was elected to serve in the | ||||||
| 16 | Illinois House of Representatives in 2000 at the age of 28, | ||||||
| 17 | making her the youngest member of the 92nd Illinois General | ||||||
| 18 | Assembly; she was elected to her sixth term as Illinois State | ||||||
| 19 | Representative in November of 2010, a testament to her great | ||||||
| 20 | dedication to the citizens of her district; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, During her tenure with the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 22 | Representatives, Representative Mendoza has served as Chairman | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | of the International Trade and Commerce Committee, | ||||||
| 2 | Vice-Chairman of the Bio-Technology Committee, and member of | ||||||
| 3 | the Labor, Public Utilities, and Railroad Industry Committees; | ||||||
| 4 | she has also served as Co-Chairwoman of the Conference of Women | ||||||
| 5 | Legislators and was a co-founder of the first Illinois | ||||||
| 6 | Legislative Latino Caucus; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza won the election for | ||||||
| 8 | Chicago City Clerk in the February 22, 2011 election with over | ||||||
| 9 | 60% of the vote, making her the first woman to be elected to | ||||||
| 10 | the position; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza will undoubtedly serve the | ||||||
| 12 | citizens of Chicago with the same dedication and integrity that | ||||||
| 13 | she has given to the citizens of the 1st House District; | ||||||
| 14 | therefore, be it

| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we congratulate Illinois State Representative Susana Mendoza | ||||||
| 18 | for her success, thank her for her service to the people of the | ||||||
| 19 | State of Illinois, and wish her success and happiness in her | ||||||
| 20 | future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to Representative Susana Mendoza as a symbol of our | ||||||
