HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate United States Army 
4Private First Class Thomas Leonard of Aurora, as he returns 
5home from his tour of duty in Afghanistan; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, He is a Combat Engineer with the 2nd Engineer 
7Battalion based in White Sands, New Mexico; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, His job is to clear the paths and roadways of IEDs 
9and bombs; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Private Leonard was injured in an IED explosion on 
11September 19, 2010 that also critically injured another 
12soldier; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Despite his own injuries, Private Leonard saw that 
14his fellow soldier was in need of assistance and rendered aid, 
15saving the soldier's life; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, For his actions, Private Leonard was awarded the 
17Purple Heart, and received an Army Commendation Medal with 
18Valor from United States Army General David Petraeus; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Private Leonard is the son of Kathy Leonard; he

1has a daughter, Annabelle Skye Leonard; he graduated from 
2Kaneland High School and has lived in Aurora for the past six 
3years; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Private First Class Thomas Leonard on his 
7return home and thank him for proudly serving his country in 
8Afghanistan; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Private First Class Thomas Leonard as a symbol of 
11our respect and esteem.
