HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Newark High School Boys Basketball team on the occasion of becoming the 2011 Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Champions; and

WHEREAS, The Newark Norsemen made their first ever appearance in the Illinois High School Association State tournament this year after reaching the Super-Sectionals in each of the last two years; and

WHEREAS, The Norsemen were outstanding all year earning a 26-1 regular season record and a perfect 8-0 record in the Little Ten Conference Tournament, where the team defeated its opponents by an average of 32 points; and

WHEREAS, The Newark team outscored its seven postseason opponents by an average of 25 points, including an impressive 22-point victory in the Championship game at Carver Arena in Peoria, where it set the Class 1A Title Game team records for field goal percentage (54.3%), assists (15), steals (15), and blocks (5); and

WHEREAS, The Norsemen are led by Head Coach Rick Tollefson, who, in five years with the team, has built a remarkable 115-35 record and led the team to the first State title in Newark High School history; and

WHEREAS, The members of the varsity Newark Boys Basketball Team are: seniors, Jeremy Anderson, Kyle Anderson, John Avery, Cameron Berg, Paul Hines, Gregory Hughes, and Sune Klarskov; juniors, David Hillard, Andrew Lehman, Kenny Kratzer, Jacob Ramey, and Taylor Wright; and sophomore, Brett Anderson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Newark High School Boys Basketball team on their victory and pursuit of excellence and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the members and coaches of the Newark High School Boys Basketball team as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
