HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the 
4administration, staff, and students of Aqsa School on the 
5occasion of the school's 25th anniversary; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Aqsa School was created in 1986 by Tawfik Nassar, 
7Salem Akras, Muhammed Atieh, Shafiq Diab, Adeeb Abu Shariff, 
8and Mahmoud Ismail; the school is the first Islamic education 
9institution to be created in the State of Illinois and the only 
10all-girls Islamic school in the United States; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Aqsa School is dedicated to providing a 
12comprehensive education in an Islamic environment which is 
13safe, orderly, and well-equipped to serve the needs of students 
14from pre-school through high school, with grades six through 
15twelve being exclusively for girls; the school offers an 
16educational program steeped in the basic principles of Islam, 
17the Islamic codes of ethics, and Islamic history, as well as a 
18full range of coursework at all levels, focusing on a college 
19preparatory curriculum in the upper grades; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Aqsa School takes a "whole child" approach by 
21providing a school climate that constantly stimulates 
22intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical growth guided by

1Islamic teaching and excellence in instruction; each student is 
2encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility for herself and 
3others; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Aqsa School is recognized and accredited by the 
5Illinois State Board of Education and The North Central 
6Association; the school is also a member of the National 
7Association of Secondary Schools, the National Honor Society, 
8The National Junior Honor Society, the Illinois Junior Academy 
9of Science, and the Illinois Coalition of Non-Public Schools; 
10and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The dedicated staff of Aqsa School serves as  a 
12model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of 
13the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
15NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
16we congratulate the administration, staff, and students of Aqsa 
17School on the occasion of the school's 25th anniversary and 
18wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be 
19it further
  
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
21presented to Aqsa School as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
