| 2 | WHEREAS, The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans | ||||||
| 3 | will present its
annual "Dante Award" on May 19, 2011 to Linda | ||||||
| 4 | Yu, Anchorwoman for ABC Channel 7 in Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Linda Yu joined ABC 7 Chicago in 1984; and in | ||||||
| 6 | April of 2005 was inducted into the "Silver Circle" of | ||||||
| 7 | legendary Chicago broadcasters; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, During her career in Chicago, she has earned 5 | ||||||
| 9 | local Emmy awards; she recently won an Emmy for her | ||||||
| 10 | contributions to a primetime special "Chicago's Road to China," | ||||||
| 11 | exploring the Chicago connections to the growing Asian economy | ||||||
| 12 | in China; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, She was also honored with an Emmy for her | ||||||
| 14 | examination of the aftermath of 9/11; she received the Emmy for | ||||||
| 15 | Outstanding Achievement with a Regularly Scheduled News | ||||||
| 16 | Program, Spot Coverage in 1987; in 1982, she won for her | ||||||
| 17 | coverage of a construction accident in Chicago's Loop; and in | ||||||
| 18 | 1981, she received an Emmy for her special newscast on the | ||||||
| 19 | attempted assassination of President Reagan;
and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, In 1984, she was honored with a National Gold | ||||||
| 21 | Medal from the National Conference of Community and Justice for | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | her documentary, "The Scars of Belfast"; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Prior to working with ABC 7, she served as the | ||||||
| 3 | co-anchor for WMAQ-TV from 1980 to 1984; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The Dante Award is given by the Joint Civic | ||||||
| 5 | Committee of Italian Americans annually; the Joint Civic | ||||||
| 6 | Committee on Italian Americans is an independent non-profit | ||||||
| 7 | association dedicated to preserving Italian-American heritage | ||||||
| 8 | and providing a unified voice for metropolitan Chicago's | ||||||
| 9 | Italian-American community; the Dante Award is given to a | ||||||
| 10 | member of the local news media who has answered Dante | ||||||
| 11 | Alighieri's call to be no timid friend to truth; therefore, be | ||||||
| 12 | it | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Linda Yu on being named the recipient of the | ||||||
| 16 | 2011 Dante Award, presented by the Joint Civic Committee of | ||||||
| 17 | Italian Americans, for her dedication, service, and | ||||||
| 18 | inspiration in the field of news; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to Linda Yu
as a symbol our respect and esteem.
