HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois State University head coach Stephanie 
3Glance was recently named the 2011 recipient of the Maggie 
4Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year Award; this award 
5honors a Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division I head 
6coach who has led the team to a successful season during their 
7first year as a coach; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, She was named the sixth head women's basketball 
9coach in Illinois State history on April 20, 2010; in her first 
10season, the Illinois State Redbirds have reached the semifinals 
11of the Women's National Invitation Tournament; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Her 24 wins this season are the fifth-most in 
13school history and are tied for the most by a first-year 
14Missouri Valley Conference coach; she is the only coach to work 
15with Hall of Fame women's basketball mentors Pat Summitt and 
16the late Kay Yow; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, As an assistant coach, she helped guide her teams 
18to 12 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) 
19Tournament appearances, reaching the Sweet 16 five times and 
20the 1998 NCAA Women's Final Four; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, She started her coaching career as an assistant

1coach and recruiting coordinator at South Florida from 1988 to 
21993 and served as an assistant coach at Southwest Texas State 
3during the 1993-94 season; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, She played college basketball at Rollins College 
5in Winter Park, Florida, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 
6English and education in 1985; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
8NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
9we congratulate Coach Stephanie Glance on receiving the Maggie 
10Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year Award; and be it
