HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the 
4Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on the occasion of the 
5organization's 100th anniversary; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was founded on 
7January 5, 1911, with its fundamental purpose being 
8achievement; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Early in the 20th century, formidable obstacles 
10were erected to prevent and dissuade African-American students 
11from attending college and assimilating into campus life; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The 10 young men who founded Kappa Alpha Psi 
13sought a formula that would immediately raise the sights of 
14black collegians and stimulate them to accomplish more than 
15they might have imagined; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity maintains active 
17undergraduate and alumni chapters throughout the State of 
18Illinois, the United States, and the world at large; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Members of Kappa Alpha Psi are engaged in every 
20field of human endeavor; many members continue to distinguish

1themselves in service to the State of Illinois; therefore, be 
2it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate the members of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity 
6on the occasion of the organization's centennial year and thank 
7them for 100 years of service in the public interest; and be it 
8further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity as a symbol of our 
11esteem and respect.
