| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Ann Kalis of | ||||||
| 4 | Elmhurst on the occasion of her retirement after many years of | ||||||
| 5 | service as principal of Lincoln School in Elmhurst; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis earned her bachelor's degree in Art | ||||||
| 7 | Education from Illinois State University in 1973; she | ||||||
| 8 | subsequently earned her master's degree in education from | ||||||
| 9 | Northern Illinois University in 1978 and has done doctoral work | ||||||
| 10 | in educational leadership at the University of Illinois at | ||||||
| 11 | Urbana-Champaign; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis has served as principal of Lincoln | ||||||
| 13 | School in Elmhurst since 1996; during her tenure at Lincoln | ||||||
| 14 | School, she developed a sterling reputation as a capable and | ||||||
| 15 | effective leader; she was also instrumental in the creation of | ||||||
| 16 | numerous programs at the school, including school-based | ||||||
| 17 | initiatives in reading and phonemic awareness and in-district | ||||||
| 18 | Principal Leadership sessions in order to foster opportunities | ||||||
| 19 | for principals to share, communicate, and learn from each | ||||||
| 20 | other; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Prior to her stint at Lincoln School, Mary Ann | ||||||
| 22 | Kalis served as a coordinator for the University of Illinois | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Medical School in Chicago from 1979 to 1983; she subsequently | ||||||
| 2 | served as Assistant Principal for Curriculum at the Immaculate | ||||||
| 3 | Conception High School in Elmhurst from 1990 to 1994 and as an | ||||||
| 4 | assistant principal and interim principal at both Jackson | ||||||
| 5 | School and Emerson School in Elmhurst from 1995 to 1996; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis has been a member of the | ||||||
| 7 | Professional Staff Development and Principal Evaluation | ||||||
| 8 | committees of the DuPage Regional Office of Education and the | ||||||
| 9 | Boards of the Elmhurst Foundation for Excellence and the DuPage | ||||||
| 10 | Region of the Illinois Principals' Association; she also served | ||||||
| 11 | as director of the DuPage Region of the Illinois Principals' | ||||||
| 12 | Association; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Kalis has served as a model of hard work, | ||||||
| 14 | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 17 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 18 | we congratulate Mary Ann Kalis on the occasion of her | ||||||
| 19 | retirement and wish her many happy and healthy retirement | ||||||
| 20 | years; and be it further

| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to Mary Ann Kalis as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
