HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Samantha Dehner on her graduation from Northern Illinois University; Samantha is a survivor of the February 2008 shooting that took place on the Northern Illinois University campus; and

WHEREAS, Samantha grew up in Carol Stream and attended Glenbard North High School from 2002 to 2006; during her junior and senior year she also attended the Technology Center of Dupage and received her license in cosmetology; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, she began taking classes at Northern Illinois University with an undecided major; on February 14, 2008, the second semester of her Sophomore year, a Thursday afternoon, she was in her Geology class at Cole Hall when shots rang out; and

WHEREAS, Samantha was injured, with a gunshot wound to her right arm and right leg; after the incident, Samantha endured surgeries, began physical therapy, and started down a long road to recovery; and

WHEREAS, Due to her injuries she was forced to leave school for the rest of the semester; but, with the support of her parents, Robert and Vickie Dehner, and her sister, Holly Dehner, she was able to return to school in the fall of 2008; and

WHEREAS, After returning to the campus, she declared psychology as her major; on May 14, 2011, she will graduate from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, with a major in psychology; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Samantha Dehner on her graduation from Northern Illinois University and acknowledge her courage and strength; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Samantha Dehner as a symbol of our sincere respect.
