| 2 | | WHEREAS, The City of Lanark is located in the Township of |
| 3 | | Rock Creek, in the County of Carroll, of the Northwestern |
| 4 | | region of the State of Illinois, characterized by its |
| 5 | | picturesque architecture and beautiful tree-lined streets; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The year 2011 has been dedicated to celebrating |
| 7 | | the 150th year since the City of Lanark was first settled; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The town's original name was Glasgow, but since |
| 9 | | there was already a town by that name, the name became Lanark; |
| 10 | | and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The name Lanark was taken from the name of a |
| 12 | | county in Scotland in which a Lanark banker once lived; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Acting on behalf of the Northern Illinois Railroad |
| 14 | | Company, D. W. Dame purchased 80 acres of land and John Nycum |
| 15 | | donated 80 acres more to the railroad for the town site; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The Northern Illinois Railroad Company donated |
| 17 | | generous amounts of this land for the school, city park, and |
| 18 | | churches as the city was laid out by D. W. Dame; and

| 19 | | WHEREAS, D. W. Dame was the first Mayor; and
