| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members and |
| 4 | | coaches of the Rock Island Rocks boys' basketball team on the |
| 5 | | occasion of winning the 2011 Illinois State High School |
| 6 | | Association Class 3A State Championship; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Rock Island Rocks defeated the Centralia |
| 8 | | Orphans 50-40 in a double overtime win to capture the State |
| 9 | | Championship IHSA Class 3A State Basketball Tournament in |
| 10 | | Peoria; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The 2010-2011 Rock Island Rocks earned the first |
| 12 | | ever state title for Rock Island and became the first team from |
| 13 | | the Quad Cities to claim first place in the boys' state |
| 14 | | basketball tournament, something that has eluded the Quad |
| 15 | | Cities for more than a century; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The Rock Island Rocks finished their incredible |
| 17 | | season with an impressive 30-3 record, setting a program record |
| 18 | | for single season wins and winning the second state title in |
| 19 | | Western Big 6 Conference history; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Rock Island Rocks are Royce |
| 21 | | Muskeyvalley, Cameron Ruiz, Romal Davis, Chasson Randle, |
|

| 1 | | DaShawn Banks, Marquel Beasley, Devon Jones, Darquez Bonner, |
| 2 | | Denzel McCauley, Greg Henderson, Keith Keesy, and Shaq Jalloh; |
| 3 | | the team's head coach is Thom Sigel and the assistant coaches |
| 4 | | are Dan Coyne-Logan and Toney Hickman; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Coach Thom Sigel is the first coach in state |
| 6 | | history to win state titles with two different teams in two |
| 7 | | different conference classes, having previously won a title |
| 8 | | with Rock Falls in the 1999 Class A State Championship; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The members and coaches of the Rock Island Rocks |
| 10 | | serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the |
| 11 | | people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
|
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 13 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 14 | | we congratulate the members and coaches of the Rock Island |
| 15 | | Rocks boys' basketball team on the occasion of winning the 2011 |
| 16 | | Illinois State High School Association Class 3A State |
| 17 | | Championship and wish them continued success and happiness in |
| 18 | | the future; and be it further

| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | presented to the Rock Island Rocks as a symbol of our esteem |
