HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Timothy D. McCollum on his retirement as a teacher at Charleston Middle School in Charleston; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago and educated in the Chicago Public Schools; he graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School with the Class of 1969; he graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Zoology in 1977; and

WHEREAS, He is retiring as a Science Teacher at Charleston Middle School in Charleston after 38 years of service; and

WHEREAS, He has received many awards while in education, including: the National Education Association Horace Mann Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence, 2009; the Golden Apple Central Illinois Academy Inaugural Class, 2008; the Sigma Xi, Eastern Illinois University Chapter Outstanding Science Teacher, 2008; the Jefferson Award for Community & Public Service, 2006; the ExxonMobil Outstanding Teaching Award, 2006; and the Presidential Award for Mathematics and Science Teaching, 2003; and

WHEREAS, He has served on many committees and boards, including: the National Education Association Horace Mann Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence - National Selection Committee, 2011; the Golden Apple Academy Committee, 2011; the Elementary and Middle Grade Advisory Group, Illinois State Board of Education, 2011; the Teacher Advisory Council, Advance Illinois, 2009 to the present; the Co-Investigator of Project Expedition Earth and Beyond, NASA Johnson Space Center, 2008 to the present; the Lead Teacher of the Polar Palooza National Museum Tour, Passport to Knowledge, Geoffrey Haines-Stiles Productions, 2007-2009; the P-12 Advisory Committee, College of Education and Professional Studies, Eastern Illinois University, 2007 to the present; the National Science Board Commission on 21st Century Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, 2006 to 2007 (he was the only K-12 teacher appointed to this national commission); and the Presidential Award for Mathematics and Science Teaching - National Selection Committee, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009; and

WHEREAS, He is married to Rita McCollum; they have one daughter, Monica Tapp and one son, Kyle McCollum; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Tim McCollum on his retirement and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Tim McCollum as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
