| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ronald Ackerman on |
| 4 | | his retirement as Chief of the West Chicago Fire Protection |
| 5 | | District; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was born in 1957 in Geneva and was raised in |
| 7 | | Elburn; he attended Kaneland High School and graduated in 1975; |
| 8 | | while at Kaneland he played football, basketball, and ran track |
| 9 | | all 4 years; he was a member of the 1973 "Second in State" |
| 10 | | basketball team and a member of the 1975 State Champion track |
| 11 | | team; he was the State champion in the 880 yard dash and a |
| 12 | | member of the State champion mile relay team; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, He attended the University of Kentucky on a track |
| 14 | | scholarship from 1976-1979; he was a member of the track team |
| 15 | | all 4 years and a member of the cross country team in 1979; his |
| 16 | | best performance while running for Kentucky was placing second |
| 17 | | in the 800-meter dash in the Southeast Conference; he graduated |
| 18 | | from the University of Kentucky in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts |
| 19 | | in Education; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, He attended Eastern Kentucky in 1980 and received |
| 21 | | a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection and Control; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, He was hired in 1980 as a career Firefighter with |
| 2 | | the West Chicago Fire Protection District; in 1985, he was |
| 3 | | promoted to Lieutenant and in 1986 he was promoted to Deputy |
| 4 | | Chief of Operations for the fire department; as Deputy Chief he |
| 5 | | was in charge of the day-to-day operations of the department as |
| 6 | | well as all fire prevention activities; in 2002, he was |
| 7 | | appointed to Chief of the Department and currently holds that |
| 8 | | position; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, His duties as Chief included all administrative |
| 10 | | functions of the department as well as control of emergency |
| 11 | | incidents; over the last 9 years as chief he has belonged to |
| 12 | | several fire chief organizations and was President of the |
| 13 | | DuPage County Fire Chief's Association in 2007; he currently |
| 14 | | resides in West Chicago with his wife, Debbie, and has 2 |
| 15 | | children, Amy and Matt; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 17 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we congratulate Chief Ronald Ackerman on his retirement and his |
| 19 | | years of service as a Firefighter; and be it further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to Chief Ronald Ackerman as a symbol of our respect |
| 22 | | and esteem.
