HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Evelyn Young, 
4executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of 
5Bloomington-Normal, on her new job as the executive director of 
6the Downtown Porter Branch at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater 
7Memphis, Tennessee; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, She opened the Boys & Girls Club of 
9Bloomington-Normal in 1992 and has served as the executive 
10director since its inception; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The community is losing a valued asset in Evelyn 
12Young, who has worked for 34 years with the Boys & Girls Clubs 
13in various locales, including Danville and Omaha, Nebraska; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The Memphis Boys & Girls Clubs have 6 facilities, 
15serve over 7,000 children and teens, and have a large operating 
16budget; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs provide after-school and summer 
18programs for youth, including homework assistance, music, 
19sports, and recreation programs; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, In addition to her duties at the Boys & Girls

1Club, she has also been a foster parent through the Department 
2of Children and Family Services of Bloomington-Normal; worked 
3as a permanent volunteer at the  Illinois Department of 
4Corrections, in

Lincoln; worked with the



McLean County Child 
5Protection Network

Court as an Appointed Special Advocate 
6(CASA); and has served on the Normal Human Relations Commission 
7for 14 years, and currently serves as Chairperson; therefore, 
8be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we congratulate Evelyn Young on her new position and thank her 
12for her years of service to the young people of 
13Bloomington-Normal; and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to Evelyn Young as a symbol of our respect and 
16esteem.
