HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edmund Miller Morrissey, who passed away on September 12, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was born on September 18, 1926, in Alton; his parents were Edmund Henry and Emma Miller Morrissey; he married the former Therese (Trixie) Louise Woodbury on November 27, 1948; and

WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey graduated from Marquette High School in 1944; shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Merchant Marine to help serve his country during World War II; he was decorated with the Victory Medal for his meritorious service; after the war, he attended St. Louis University before subsequently graduating from Washington University's School of Engineering; and

WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was the founder and owner of the Morrissey Construction Company; his firm was instrumental in shaping the region as it grew from its humble beginnings in the basement of his home to one of the region's leading commercial and residential developers; the company completed more than 14,000 affordable units, including housing developments, retail outlets, churches, schools, institutional facilities for the developmentally disabled, and law enforcement headquarters; and

WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey devoted countless hours to volunteer his time and talent on many civic boards for the betterment of the overall community; he cherished and was always there for St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he worshipped and served for more than 60 years; and

WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey had a passion for travel and learning other cultures, most notably the ancient cultures of Central America, where he was recognized as an authority in the field of pre-Columbian antiquities; he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, spending time with his family and friends, and spreading good will wherever he went; and

WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Mary Josephine Morrissey; and

WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey is survived by his beloved wife, Trixie; his children, Ed, Jr. (Patty), Mike (Linda), Barbara McGrew (Michael), Tom (Laurie), Jim, Joe, John, Teri Holland (Dean), Dan (Kimara), Patrick, and Kathy Brandt (Kurt); his grandchildren, Mary Morrissey, Jeanne Kirimca, Michael C. Morrissey Jr., Vanessa Bassett, Ryan Morrissey, Tom Edmoundson, Micah Spicer, Edmund Q. Morrissey, McKenna Morrissey, John Paul Morrissey, Jackson Morrissey, Jacob Morrissey, Erich Holland, Nathan Holland, Michelle Holland, Samantha Purcell-Blyth, Daniel Morrissey Jr., Emma Morrissey, Joseph R. Morrissey, Margaret Morrissey, Alexander Morrissey, Matthew Morrissey, Lauren Brandt, Zachary Brandt, Noah Brandt, Luke Brandt, and Sophia Brandt; his great-grandchildren, Konnor Morrissey, Kollin Morrissey, Karson Morrissey, Kooper Morrissey, Madison Bassett, Isabelle Bassett and Shane Morrissey; his brother, Thomas Morrissey, M.D.; his sister-in-law, Jean Woodbury Culligan Doris; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Edmund Miller Morrissey; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edmund Morrissey as an expression of our sympathy.
