| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Edmund |
| 4 | | Miller Morrissey, who passed away on September 12, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was born on September 18, 1926, |
| 6 | | in Alton; his parents were Edmund Henry and Emma Miller |
| 7 | | Morrissey; he married the former Therese (Trixie) Louise |
| 8 | | Woodbury on November 27, 1948; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey graduated from Marquette High |
| 10 | | School in 1944; shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United |
| 11 | | States Merchant Marine to help serve his country during World |
| 12 | | War II; he was decorated with the Victory Medal for his |
| 13 | | meritorious service; after the war, he attended St. Louis |
| 14 | | University before subsequently graduating from Washington |
| 15 | | University's School of Engineering; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was the founder and owner of the |
| 17 | | Morrissey Construction Company; his firm was instrumental in |
| 18 | | shaping the region as it grew from its humble beginnings in the |
| 19 | | basement of his home to one of the region's leading commercial |
| 20 | | and residential developers; the company completed more than |
| 21 | | 14,000 affordable units, including housing developments, |
| 22 | | retail outlets, churches, schools, institutional facilities |

| 1 | | for the developmentally disabled, and law enforcement |
| 2 | | headquarters; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey devoted countless hours to |
| 4 | | volunteer his time and talent on many civic boards for the |
| 5 | | betterment of the overall community; he cherished and was |
| 6 | | always there for St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he |
| 7 | | worshipped and served for more than 60 years; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey had a passion for travel and |
| 9 | | learning other cultures, most notably the ancient cultures of |
| 10 | | Central America, where he was recognized as an authority in the |
| 11 | | field of pre-Columbian antiquities; he also enjoyed hunting, |
| 12 | | fishing, woodworking, spending time with his family and |
| 13 | | friends, and spreading good will wherever he went; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey was preceded in death by his |
| 15 | | parents and his sister-in-law, Mary Josephine Morrissey; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey is survived by his beloved wife, |
| 17 | | Trixie; his children, Ed, Jr. (Patty), Mike (Linda), Barbara |
| 18 | | McGrew (Michael), Tom (Laurie), Jim, Joe, John, Teri Holland |
| 19 | | (Dean), Dan (Kimara), Patrick, and Kathy Brandt (Kurt); his |
| 20 | | grandchildren, Mary Morrissey, Jeanne Kirimca, Michael C. |
| 21 | | Morrissey Jr., Vanessa Bassett, Ryan Morrissey, Tom |
| 22 | | Edmoundson, Micah Spicer, Edmund Q. Morrissey, McKenna |

| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 13 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 14 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
| 15 | | Edmund Miller Morrissey; and be it further
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 17 | | presented to the family of Edmund Morrissey as an expression of |
| 18 | | our sympathy.
