HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Lemont Knights 
4of Columbus Council #1599 on their 100th anniversary; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Lemont Knights of Columbus Council #1599 will 
6be celebrating its 100 year anniversary on December 10, 2011; 
7the council has seen its members serve in both World Wars, 
8Korea, Vietnam, and other armed conflicts; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The council had over 300 members during the 1940s 
10and 1950s when Lemont had a much smaller population; the 
11council owned a council hall for many years on Canal Street; 
12the council has and continues to provide service to the 4 
13Catholic churches in Lemont, besides assisting numerous local 
14youth, adult, and special need groups; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The Knights participate in the national "Tootsie 
16Roll" Day each year; this fundraiser generates thousands of 
17dollars each year, helping around the world and aiding mentally 
18challenged people in Lemont as well; 100%  of the funds are 
19given to civic organizations that service special need people 
20each year; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, The Knights, along with the VFW and American

1Legion,  helped create a scholarship program fund for boys to 
2attend Scout camps, organized and contributed to making sure 
3hearing impaired persons have an interpreter at Catholic mass 
4services, support youth sporting groups, and supply   volunteers 
5for the Kops for Kids program; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus support Right to Life 
7programs, support relief efforts, contribute to the food 
8pantries, support local parishes, and other needs as they 
9arise; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Lemont Knights of Columbus currently has over 
1160 members; therefore, be it
  
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
14we congratulate the Lemont Knights of Columbus on this 
15anniversary occasion and wish them continued success in the 
16future; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to the Lemont Knights of Columbus Council #1599 as a 
19symbol of our respect and esteem.
