HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, 
4staff, faculty, and alumni of the City Colleges of Chicago 
5(CCC) on the 100th anniversary of the institution; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS,  For 100 years, City Colleges has served as a 
7gateway for Chicagoans striving to reach their education and 
8career goals; City Colleges was founded as Crane Junior College 
9on September 11, 1911 with just 30 students; City Colleges has 
10grown to become the largest community college system in 
11Illinois and one of the largest in the nation, with 5,800 
12faculty and staff serving 120,000 students at 7 campuses and 13 
13satellite sites city-wide; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, City Colleges has improved the lives of more than 
15one million alumni since its inception 100 years ago and 
16continues to grow each year; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The City Colleges of Chicago is in the midst of a 
18Reinvention, a collaborative effort to review and revise CCC 
19programs and practices to drive greater degree attainment, job 
20placement, and career advancement; and
  
 
  
21    WHEREAS, The City Colleges of Chicago includes 7 colleges:

1Richard J. Daley College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X 
2College, Olive-Harvey College, Harry S Truman College, Harold 
3Washington College, and Wilbur Wright College; the system also 
4oversees the Washburne Culinary Institute, the French Pastry 
5School, 2 restaurants, 5 Child Development Centers, the Center 
6for Distance Learning, the Workforce Institute, the public 
7broadcast station WYCC-TV Channel 20, and radio station WKKC-FM 
889.3FM; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we congratulate everyone involved in making the 100th 
12anniversary of the City Colleges of Chicago a reality and wish 
13them continued success for years to come; and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to a representative of the City Colleges of Chicago 
16as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
