HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Marie Stiefel on 
4the occasion of her retirement as Regional Office of Education 
5(ROE) 8 superintendent after many years of dedicated service; 
6and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Marie Stiefel has worked in the Regional Office of 
8Education for 23 years; she began her career as a truancy 
9officer in 1988, which gave her the opportunity to work with 
10many at-risk students and their families; she subsequently 
11served as a youth services administrator and assistant regional 
12superintendent before becoming regional superintendent in 
132005; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, During her years as an ROE superintendent, Marie 
15Stiefel oversaw 14 school districts and served on a Workforce 
16Development Committee to promote the Certificate of 
17Employability with area schools and employers; during her 
18tenure, the ROE has added several grant programs, such as the 
19New Teacher Induction and Mentoring Grant, as well as the 
20Workforce Investment Act Youth Program, which links high school 
21dropouts with GED classes, job skills training, and subsidized 
22employment; and

1    WHEREAS, During her retirement, Marie Stiefel plans to 
2continue working part-time in the area of education or social 
3services; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Marie Stiefel on the occasion of her retirement 
7and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it 
8further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Marie Stiefel as a symbol of our esteem and 
11respect.
