HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate York Amateur Radio 
4Club President Chuck Hopper and the members of the York Amateur 
5Radio Club in Elmhurst on the 75th anniversary of the 
6organization; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Club celebrated its 75th anniversary on 
8October 21, 2011; its history dates back to 1936; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Chuck Hopper was hooked when he saw his middle 
10school teacher's amateur radio station in Jacksonville; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, He later learned how to operate radios, how they 
12worked, how to use Morse code, and the Federal Communications 
13Commission rules and regulations; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The club members are part of the local community, 
15and the City of Elmhurst often turns to them in times of bad 
16weather and other emergencies; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The club recently helped out with the Chicago 
18Marathon, allowing the marathon to use the club's repeater to 
19boost the radio signals of the volunteers coordinating medical 
20help and other course needs; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
3we congratulate the members of the York Amateur Radio Club on 
4this occasion and wish them continued success in the future; 
5and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to Chuck Hopper and the members of the York Amateur 
8Radio Club as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
