| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize John Deere for attempting a |
| 4 | | world record at the John Deere Pavilion in Moline by |
| 5 | | constructing a full-sized sculpture of its new S-Series combine |
| 6 | | from more than 300,000 cans through John Deere's project, Can |
| 7 | | Do; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The sculpture is 60 feet wide, 80 feet long, and |
| 9 | | 16 feet tall and weighs nearly 170 tons; all 300,000 cans will |
| 10 | | be donated as much-needed supplies to Moline's River Bend |
| 11 | | Foodbank during the holiday season; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Deere's project Can Do sculpture and food |
| 13 | | donation program are designed to raise awareness of the |
| 14 | | essential role of farmers and ranchers play in producing safe, |
| 15 | | healthy, and abundant food for a growing world population; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Because the global population is expected to |
| 17 | | increase from 7 billion to more than 9 billion by 2050, farmers |
| 18 | | will need to increase food production by 70%, while using the |
| 19 | | same amount of land, water, and other resources; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, New technologies like the S-Series combine are |
| 21 | | important tools in helping farmers meet higher food demands; |
