| 2 | WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois House of Representatives congratulate Lois Nelson on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of her retirement after 40 years of service in the | ||||||
| 5 | Chicago Public Schools; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Eager to constantly improve her craft, Lois Nelson | ||||||
| 7 | obtained her bachelor's degree and master's degree and | ||||||
| 8 | undertook over 60 hours of formal education; she also earned a | ||||||
| 9 | Youth Empowerment and Self-Sufficiency Mini-Society | ||||||
| 10 | Certificate from the Illinois Institute for Entrepreneurship | ||||||
| 11 | Education and an Advanced Certificate as a Gifted Teacher; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Lois Nelson has served as a tireless advocate for | ||||||
| 13 | the Chicago Public Schools system and for better educational | ||||||
| 14 | opportunities for all children; she served as a Lead Mentor in | ||||||
| 15 | the Golden Teacher's Mentor Program for the Chicago Board of | ||||||
| 16 | Education; she served as a union delegate at Earle Elementary | ||||||
| 17 | School for over 30 years and as a delegate to the American | ||||||
| 18 | Federation of Teachers and Illinois Federation of Teachers | ||||||
| 19 | Conventions; she served as a member of the Chicago Teachers' | ||||||
| 20 | Union Executive Board; she has participated in union lobbying | ||||||
| 21 | efforts in Springfield as a political coordinator and co-chair | ||||||
| 22 | of the union's Political Action Committee; she also served as | ||||||
| 23 | chair of the Chicago Teachers' Union Fashion Show 2006 for the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | CTU Student Assistance Program and participated in the Mother's | ||||||
| 2 | Day Walk for Cancer with CTU; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Lois Nelson served as a Chicago Teachers' Pension | ||||||
| 4 | Fund Active Teacher Board Trustee from 2005 until 2010; she | ||||||
| 5 | also served as the Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund Board Vice | ||||||
| 6 | President - Chair of Personnel and the Chicago Teachers' | ||||||
| 7 | Pension Fund Board Financial Secretary and Chair of Personnel, | ||||||
| 8 | Finance, and Audit; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Lois Nelson has been a member of the National | ||||||
| 10 | Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Mu Chapter for 25 years; she | ||||||
| 11 | is a member of the Association for Gifted Children; she also | ||||||
| 12 | serves as President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary | ||||||
| 13 | Council #8973 at St. John De La Salle Catholic Church and as a | ||||||
| 14 | church lector/commentator at St. John De La Salle; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, In addition to her educational career, Lois Nelson | ||||||
| 16 | served as a court reporter for Chicago Title & Trust; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Lois Nelson will celebrate her retirement with a | ||||||
| 18 | party in her honor on December 30, 2011, at Crystal Light | ||||||
| 19 | Banquets in Burbank; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 21 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||

| 1 | we congratulate Lois Nelson on the occasion of her retirement, | ||||||
| 2 | show our appreciation for her dedication to the education of | ||||||
| 3 | her students and her advocacy on their behalf, and wish her | ||||||
| 4 | many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to Lois Nelson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
