| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, |
| 4 | | faculty, staff, and alumni of Benet Academy on the occasion of |
| 5 | | the school's 125th anniversary on March 2, 2012; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Continuing a distinguished 1,500-year tradition |
| 7 | | of the Order of St. Benedict and the Benedictines as educators, |
| 8 | | St. Procopius College Academy was founded as a school for boys |
| 9 | | by the Benedictine monks in the Pilsen area on the west side of |
| 10 | | Chicago in 1887; in 1901, St. Procopius College Academy was |
| 11 | | relocated to Lisle on what is now the Benedictine University |
| 12 | | campus; Sacred Heart Academy, a school for young women, was |
| 13 | | established in Lisle in 1926 by the Benedictine sisters of |
| 14 | | Sacred Heart Monastery; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1956, St. Procopius College Academy was |
| 16 | | relocated to the former St. Joseph Bohemian Orphanage property |
| 17 | | (now the Benet Academy campus) and was renamed St. Procopius |
| 18 | | Academy; in 1967, St. Procopius Academy and Sacred Heart |
| 19 | | Academy were joined together by the monks of St. Procopius |
| 20 | | Abbey and the sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery; this |
| 21 | | co-educational school was named Benet Academy; and
|
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Today, Benet Academy continues to apply its |
