HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, 
4faculty, staff, and alumni of Benet Academy on the occasion of 
5the school's 125th anniversary on March 2, 2012; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Continuing a distinguished 1,500-year tradition 
7of the Order of St. Benedict and the Benedictines as educators, 
8St. Procopius College Academy was founded as a school for boys 
9by the Benedictine monks in the Pilsen area on the west side of 
10Chicago in 1887; in 1901, St. Procopius College Academy was 
11relocated to Lisle on what is now the Benedictine University 
12campus; Sacred Heart Academy, a school for young women, was 
13established in Lisle in 1926 by the Benedictine sisters of 
14Sacred Heart Monastery; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1956, St. Procopius College Academy was 
16relocated to the former St. Joseph Bohemian Orphanage property 
17(now the Benet Academy campus) and was renamed St. Procopius 
18Academy; in 1967, St. Procopius Academy and Sacred Heart 
19Academy were joined together by the monks of St. Procopius 
20Abbey and the sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery; this 
21co-educational school was named Benet Academy; and
  
 
22    WHEREAS, Today, Benet Academy continues to apply its

1cherished Benedictine core values of community, hospitality, 
2respect, stewardship, and love of learning; and

  
 
3    WHEREAS, Benet Academy has established itself as one of the 
4top high schools in the State of Illinois for academic 
5achievement; in 1999, U.S. News and World Report, in 
6conjunction with the University of Chicago, found Benet Academy 
7to be one of the top 100 high schools in the nation for high 
8academic standards; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Benet Academy will celebrate the 125th 
10anniversary of its founding with a number of activities and 
11events throughout 2012 to honor and celebrate this very special 
12occasion; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we congratulate the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of 
16Benet Academy on the occasion of the school's 125th anniversary 
17and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; 
18and be it further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to Benet Academy as a symbol of our esteem and 
21respect.
