HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Chicago Police Officer Clifton Lewis, who was killed in the line of duty on December 29, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lewis was appointed to the Chicago Police Department on April 28, 2003 after serving as a member of Training Academy Class 03-03B; his assignments included working in the 8th District, 11th District, and the 15th District; he received numerous awards, including 4 Department Commendations, a Unit Meritorious Award, 70 Honorable Mentions, 2 Crime Reduction Awards, and 2 Complimentary Letters; and

WHEREAS, Clifton Lewis was born to Clifton Lewis and Maxine on May 5, 1970; and

WHEREAS, Clifton Lewis attended Bloom Township High School, graduating in 1987; while attending high school, he was a star on the school football team; he attended and graduated from Jackson State University in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Clifton Lewis attended United Baptist Church under the guidance of Reverend Dr. Wilson Daniels; he was the proud father of Simone Lewis; and

WHEREAS, Clifton Lewis was engaged to Latrice Tucker on Christmas Day, December 25, 2010; he enjoyed basketball, football, and skating; and

WHEREAS, Officer Clifton Lewis is survived by his parents; his fiancee, Latrice Tucker; his child, Simone; and his sisters, Nicole Olloway, Matasha Lewis, and Lashana Lewis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and the grateful people of the City of Chicago, the passing of Officer Clifton Lewis; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chicago Police Officer Clifton Lewis as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
