| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of the |
| 4 | | Village of Round Lake Beach on the occasion of the village's |
| 5 | | 75th anniversary; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Development around Round Lake began in the 1920s |
| 7 | | as a resort attraction for Chicago's working class; at this |
| 8 | | time, small, wooded lots with summer cottages were available |
| 9 | | for as little as $600; with demands growing for municipal |
| 10 | | services, a proposal for incorporation of the community was |
| 11 | | eagerly received in 1936; on January 19, 1937, Round Lake Beach |
| 12 | | was incorporated as a village with a population of 200 people; |
| 13 | | the village's original board of trustees was composed of Peter |
| 14 | | Crowley, Edward M. Lahey, William Hingst, Frank Krakora, Hana |
| 15 | | Roeb, and Charles Rogers, and John C. Ness was the village's |
| 16 | | first village clerk; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, As automobile ownership grew, Round Lake Beach |
| 18 | | began to attract year-round residents who would commute between |
| 19 | | Round Lake Beach and their jobs in Chicago or nearby suburban |
| 20 | | communities; the Great Depression also made its mark on the |
| 21 | | village by changing it from a summer resort to a permanent |
| 22 | | residential community as unemployment mounted in the city |
| 23 | | forcing people to vacate apartments and move to their summer |

| 1 | | homes; the village's population steadily grew throughout the |
| 2 | | decades, with numerous businesses and municipal projects built |
| 3 | | by the village's industrious residents; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, In 1947, the residents of Round Lake Beach formed |
| 5 | | the Round Lake Sanitary District; since Round Lake Beach did |
| 6 | | not have the bonding power to install laterals and mains, the |
| 7 | | village passed a referendum in 1958 to finance construction of |
| 8 | | a system of mains and laterals that was nearing completion on |
| 9 | | the village's 26th anniversary; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The rapid rate of housing construction in Round |
| 11 | | Lake Beach significantly increased in the 1990s with the |
| 12 | | development of the Sutton on the Lake, Foxchase, and Country |
| 13 | | Walk subdivisions; approximately 250 units were built annually |
| 14 | | between 1990 and 1996; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, Round Lake Beach has seen continued |
| 16 | | significant growth in the commercial sector, while the |
| 17 | | population has grown to a 2010 total of 28,175; since 2000, the |
| 18 | | village has developed its new Village Hall and Police Station, |
| 19 | | expanded its Metra facilities, and built a new Village Cultural |
| 20 | | and Civic Center; the Round Lake Area Park District has also |
| 21 | | expanded its park holdings within the village and built its |
| 22 | | district wide Sports Center in the village's town center, while |
| 23 | | the Round Lake Area Fire Protection District has grown as well; |

| 1 | | the combined growth of this variety of land uses has made Round |
| 2 | | Lake Beach one of the main regional community centers for |
| 3 | | western Lake County; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Round Lake Beach serve as models |
| 5 | | of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the |
| 6 | | State of Illinois; therefore, be it
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 8 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 9 | | we congratulate the citizens of the Village of Round Lake Beach |
| 10 | | on the occasion of the village's 75th anniversary and wish them |
| 11 | | continued success and happiness in the future; and be it |
| 12 | | further

| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 14 | | presented to the Round Lake Beach Mayor Rich Hill as a symbol |
| 15 | | of our esteem and respect.
