HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Set to formally launch in September of 2012, Green
3Apple is a new initiative that aims to take the green schools
4movement into the mainstream; through Green Apple, the United
5States Green Building Council is undertaking a bold mission to
6create green schools for all schoolchildren within this
7generation; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Each year, thousands of members of the Center for
9Green Schools' expanding network give more than 208,000
10volunteer hours in support of green schools; green building
11professionals, educators, parents, and students everywhere
12have come together to voice their support for better school
13buildings, healthier facilities, and cost-saving sustainable
14practices through education and outreach, community events,
15advocacy campaigns, and more; and
 
16    WHEREAS, On September 29, 2012, the Center for Green
17Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council will host the
18first-ever Green Apple Day of Service; for one day, green
19school advocates from across the country and around the world,
20including USGBC Staff, Chapters, and Students, international
21green building councils, elected officials, teachers, parents,
22students, and more, will come together in support of green
23schools by taking real action in their communities; therefore,

2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we encourage all schools within the State of Illinois to
5support the Green Apple initiative and to take all possible
6steps to make the schools of this State more environmentally
7friendly; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the United States Green Building Council as a
10symbol of our esteem and respect.
