| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jay Paul |
| 4 | | Adams of Zion, who passed away on March 20, 2012; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born February 15, 1959 in Fort Worth, Texas |
| 6 | | to Robert and Olivia Adams; although he accepted Christ at an |
| 7 | | early age, he recently rededicated his life back to the Lord |
| 8 | | and was a member of Jesus Name Apostolic Church; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He and his family made Waukegan their home in |
| 10 | | 1970, where he attended Waukegan East High School and graduated |
| 11 | | with the class of 1979; while in high school, he was a member |
| 12 | | of the football and wrestling teams and made several lifelong |
| 13 | | friendships; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He had a passion for cooking and made a career in |
| 15 | | the culinary arts field; he was a long time employee for Great |
| 16 | | Lakes Naval Base and held the position of Assistant Director at |
| 17 | | Galley 535; from there he continued on as one of the head chefs |
| 18 | | for Abbott Laboratories where he remained employed until his |
| 19 | | passing; he was also a partner in the J & M Catering Co., which |
| 20 | | he co-founded with Michael Herring in 2004; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, He was a kind, loving, and gentle man that loved |

| 1 | | the Lord; he was well known in the community and will always be |
| 2 | | remembered for his positive outlook on life, his willingness to |
| 3 | | help others, his big heart, and his integrity; he had a passion |
| 4 | | for helping others, which extended to his strong commitment to |
| 5 | | the Oxford Houses, where he served as treasurer for 13 years; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his adoring mother, |
| 8 | | Olivia Adams; his stepmother, Velma Adams; his brothers, Robert |
| 9 | | Adams, Jr., James Adams, and Joseph Adams; and his special |
| 10 | | brothers-in-law, Robert L. Strowder and Stanley Duffie; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Jay Paul Adams is survived by his wife, Odessa; |
| 12 | | his children, Joslynn Adams and Terrell White; his father, |
| 13 | | Robert Adams Sr.; his sisters, Dinah (Jimmie) Betts, Lorraine |
| 14 | | Duffie, and Corrie Adams; his brother, Robert (Minnie) Adams |
| 15 | | III; his stepsisters, Darcy Stevenson, Clydie Myers, and Alicia |
| 16 | | (James) Harris; his stepbrothers, Leonard Irby, Robert |
| 17 | | Catchings, Paul Catchings, and James Catchings; his |
| 18 | | sister-in-law, Nanette Adams; and a host of loving nieces, |
| 19 | | nephews, friends, and 7 stepchildren; therefore, be it
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 22 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jay |
| 23 | | Paul Adams; and be it further
