| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Markusree |
| 4 | | "Che Che" Nichols, who passed away on March 27, 2012; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, She was born in Shelby, Mississippi, on March 21, |
| 6 | | 1940, to Mr. Willie James and Blanche Johnson; at an early age, |
| 7 | | Markusree moved to Chicago, where she graduated from John |
| 8 | | Marshall High School; she met Ulysses "Nick" Nichols at the |
| 9 | | tender age of 15; in 1957, they married; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, At an early age, Markusree accepted and professed |
| 11 | | Christ; in 1983, she joined Holy Family Lutheran Church, where |
| 12 | | she was a faithful member; for a short period she connected |
| 13 | | with Salem Baptist Church; she was beloved by the Cabrini Green |
| 14 | | Community and was the pillar of the original Local Advisory |
| 15 | | Council; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, She helped campaign for many politicians in the |
| 17 | | area and was influential in pushing many new community programs |
| 18 | | at Lower North Center; she played a pivotal part in raising |
| 19 | | many children of Caprini; her home was often the center of |
| 20 | | activity; she was one of the first to have a garden in the row |
| 21 | | houses; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, |
| 2 | | Brenda (Kaye) Posley and Tyni (Steve) Jones; her sons, Ulysses |
| 3 | | "Binky" Nichols and Cyril (Theresa) Nichols; her |
| 4 | | grandchildren, Lacy, Cyril "Marshaun", Whittley, Mychal, |
| 5 | | Taylor, Kaylyn, Chloe, and Cyril Jr. "CJ"; her |
| 6 | | great-grandchildren, JoNathan, Jazell, Ja-honesti, and Keith; |
| 7 | | her twin brother, Claude "Marcus" Johnson; her sister, Laura |
| 8 | | Johnson; her dear niece and nephew, who she shared in raising, |
| 9 | | Jenice Jamison and Anthony Williams; her special cousins, AJ |
| 10 | | Whitney, Henry and Toni Darden, and Albert "Buck" (April) |
| 11 | | Crawford; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Bill) Haney and Laura |
| 12 | | Nichols; her brother-in-law, Frank (Doris) Nichols; her |
| 13 | | Godchildren, Janet Faulkner, Patricia Smith, Kimberly Smith, |
| 14 | | Rodney Bullock, and Fannie Brooks; and her very special |
| 15 | | friends, Sheila and Mary Lou; as well as a host of nieces, |
| 16 | | nephews, family, and friends; therefore, be it

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 19 | | we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of |
| 20 | | Markusree Nichols; and be it further
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to the family of Markusree Nichols as a symbol of our |
| 23 | | sincere sympathy.
