HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Steven Michael 
4Simmons on the occasion of attaining the coveted rank of Eagle 
5Scout; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Steven Simmons is currently a senior at Hoffman 
7Estates High School in Hoffman Estates, where he spent 2 years 
8as a junior varsity member and 2 years as a varsity member of 
9the school's gymnastics team; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Steven Simmons has been involved in Scouting since 
11he joined as a Tiger Cub; he earned the Arrow of Light as a 
12Webelos Scout before crossing over to Boy Scouts in 2005; he 
13later joined Venturing Crew 808; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, During his time as a Boy Scout and Venturer, 
15Steven Simmons earned 36 merit badges, well over the 21 badges 
16required to earn the rank of Eagle; in 2007, he was elected to 
17the Lakota Lodge of the Order of the Arrow by his peers in 
18Troop 297 and is now a brotherhood honor member of the lodge; 
19he served as a counselor-in-training and staff member at Camp 
20Napowan in Wisconsin; he has served as a RSA Life Guard and a 
21BSA Climbing and Rappelling Instructor and is certified in CPR 
22and First Aid; he has also worked several summers as a

1lifeguard and often helps with climbing and rappelling events 
2at Camp Lakota and at Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo, 
3Wisconsin; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Steven Simmons 
5landscaped the grounds at the offices of the Society for the 
6Preservation of Human Dignity, which is located in Inverness; 
7and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The rank of Eagle Scout will be bestowed upon 
9Steven Simmons by the Boy Scouts of America at a Court of Honor 
10ceremony on May 20, 2012; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we congratulate Steven Michael Simmons on the occasion of 
14attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout and wish him 
15continued success and happiness in the future; and be it 
16further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Steven Simmons as a symbol of our esteem and 
19respect.
