| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jordan Cotler and | ||||||
| 4 | Adam Kalinich for their success in the Intel Science Talent | ||||||
| 5 | Search; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Intel Science Talent Search is America's most | ||||||
| 7 | prestigious pre-college science competition, with nearly 2,000 | ||||||
| 8 | of the nation's most elite students competing for the $100,000 | ||||||
| 9 | grand prize; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Jordan Cotler, a Northbrook resident, is | ||||||
| 11 | currently a senior at Glenbrook North High School; he came in | ||||||
| 12 | 10th place and won an award of $20,000; his project involves a | ||||||
| 13 | new method of encrypting fiber-optic and satellite | ||||||
| 14 | communications using quantum mechanics and relativity; in his | ||||||
| 15 | spare time, he is a professional magician who has patented | ||||||
| 16 | magic tricks he has invented and sold to magicians worldwide; | ||||||
| 17 | and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Adam Kalinich, a Glen Ellyn resident, currently | ||||||
| 19 | studies at the Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora; he | ||||||
| 20 | was one of 40 finalists and won an award of $7,500; his project | ||||||
| 21 | explores the complexity of determining a winner in "poset | ||||||
| 22 | games", strategy games for 2 players which involve a "partially | ||||||
| |||||||

| 1 | ordered set" of elements with varying values; his results for | ||||||
| 2 | general poset games were published in a mathematical journal; | ||||||
| 3 | and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, In order for the State of Illinois and the United | ||||||
| 5 | States of America to retain and expand upon our position as | ||||||
| 6 | economic and research leaders, our population requires | ||||||
| 7 | individuals who attain world-class achievements in the areas of | ||||||
| 8 | science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, such as | ||||||
| 9 | those attained by Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich serve as models of | ||||||
| 11 | hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the | ||||||
| 12 | State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Jordan Cotler and Adam Kalinich for their | ||||||
| 16 | success in the Intel Science Talent Search and wish them | ||||||
| 17 | success and happiness in their future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further

| 19 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
